How We Do It: Difference By Design

Finding the right story to tell and the best way to tell it can be a complex problem to solve. The story has to be right for your organization, your goals for the project, the audiences that you hope to connect with, and the platforms where you’ll reach them.

Having something important to say and feeling like nobody is listening can be frustrating. It can also be the difference between the momentum your organization needs to execute your mission and getting bogged down along the way.

Messaging that delivers results takes both reliability and flexibility. You need the strategy and tactics it takes to choose the right path and stay on it. You also need the opportunity to think creatively as you find and present stories that connect and resonate with your audience.

Design Thinking Process

At Argonaut Productions, we wanted our approach to video storytelling to balance the reliability of a scientific process with the flexibility and creativity that it takes to deliver unique, customized projects that are individualized to an organization’s exact needs.

To get a process that balanced reliability and creativity, we borrowed some ideas from an approach known as the Design Thinking Process. The five elements of the Design Thinking Process are:

  • Empathize

  • Define the Problem

  • Ideate

  • Prototype

  • Test

Our process moves from discovery to story finding before proceeding to production and metrics. Like the design thinking methodology, our design process is focused on understanding problems, identifying solutions, and measuring results.

Insight

The design thinking process begins with empathy. Our discovery process shares the belief that you have to empathize before you can understand and that you have to understand a problem before you can find a solution.

The discovery process is the foundation of every project that we work on because we can’t go beyond generic solutions until we understand what makes your organization unique.

We need to understand what you do—but it’s as important to understand your WHY. We need to understand who you help and how you do it. We need to understand where your support comes from and when that support makes a difference for your mission. Somebody else’s story can’t do the work of creating your organization’s emotional connections.

Impact

The discovery process helps us understand what your video storytelling project needs to accomplish and why those results are important to your organization and your audience.

We ideate in the story finding phase of the project to turn what we’ve learned into a clear plan of action that will connect what your organization wants with a visual story that can help bring it to you.

Our production process results in a prototype that brings our knowledge, experience, and skills together with the story your organization needs to tell. It gives you a professionally produced video that tells your story in a way that will connect and resonate with your audience.

Improve

When we deliver your video story that isn’t the end of the process—it’s the beginning of a new phase. We employ elite research and analytical tools to help you measure the impact of your video story. We will learn together over time so that we can do even better with future projects.

The design thinking process is a methodology that is focused on finding solutions to complex problems and improving the results over time by learning the lessons that your video’s performance can teach us.

Design Thinking is the reason we can confidently claim that we can deliver results for your organization. It’s the right balance of reliability and creativity to ensure that we find the right way to tell your story and produce videos that connect on an emotional level.

Tell us what your organization needs from your next messaging campaign and we’ll show you what we can do to bring that to you.
